Since I’ve lost the opportunity to display my work at art shows this season, I’ve decided to create a series of mini online shows to highlight my work. Keep watching for updates!
Keep Off the Dunes is meant to pull viewers down those familiar pathways to the beach on a bright sunny day. This one happens to be at 15th Street in Ocean City, just south of the fishing pier. Quiet Beach is a peaceful night scene from Sea Isle City. The painting owes a photo credit to Jim Brubaker and shows two life guard boats resting in the solitude of the beach after the sun goes down. Beach Toys zooms in on my family’s favorite shore activity: digging in the sand! I particularly love the contrast of the bright colored bucket and fish against the beige of the sand. In Broken Fences, I was struck by the zigzags of the dune fencing as I walked along an unfamiliar beach in Stone Harbor. It was a windy day in late October and I wondered if a storm had blown in and covered up the fencing, or if the sand had been slowly rising up over the years there. Either way, it made for an intriguing image. The painting Sailboats peeks onto a beach full of boats resting after a day on the water. The scene unfolds unexpectedly if you walk from the end of Ocean City’s boardwalk at 23 rd Street, and turn off into the dunes. Suddenly the “boat beach” appears nestled among the sand dunes. The boats gather like big sunbathers catching the last rays of the day. All of these images reflect the calm warmth that being at the Jersey Shores have always represented for me.
